Mariano Ferrante
Studies
September 3 – October 31, 2020 — Art Projects International, 434 Greenwich Street, New York

The exhibition presents Ferrante's intimate small-scale works, which serve as foundational studies. “These smaller works come from a more meditative and freely experimental Ferrante and the viewer benefits from the intimacy.” The works feature triptychs, diptychs, and single panels in tempera marker and acrylic on canvas.
The presentation also includes recently completed Monocromo paintings created concurrently. According to curator Erik Bakke, “These reductive experiments of form against ground come from a more playful and perhaps more personal conversation Ferrante is having with his media, his viewers, and his future work.” The smaller works use isolated geometric elements that inform the artist's larger, intricately patterned compositions.
